EVOLUTION OF THE ROLES

In Finland, varied methods of teaching are combined appropriately to support deeper learning. The role of the teacher is evolving into an instructor guiding learners in sourcing, assimilating and combining information. This heralds a major change in the teaching profession also, requiring teachers to shift their mindset from centralized control and uniformity to individually tailored learning and adoption of more varied tools and techniques.

Our role as educators is to support and encourage children to facilitate, extend and resource their own learning through interactions with peers, educators and their environment. The role of educators is then less of direct teaching, but to scaffold learning and encourage social interactions.

One size does not fit all, nor does one method suit everybody.

Learning Through Discovery

Instead of learning through play experience and discovery, school all too often turns out to be a place where children just sit and listen to the teacher talk most of the time; where children watch the teacher demonstrate things on the blackboard; where the teacher thinks that there is only one correct answer.

In this type of school, for the first time in their lives, children may stop learning or find their natural learning processes thwarted.

Love of Learning

Our approach is to foster a love of learning, problem solving, experimentation and inquisitiveness to provide a solid foundation for your child’s future. The emphasis is on learning through play in an environment planned to stimulate discovery, independence and social interaction.

Less Dependence on Teachers

Children are encouraged to help themselves, take initiative and become increasingly independent in order to develop self-esteem and social competence. It is important that children develop a sense of trust and are comfortable in their environment.

Multiple Intelligences

Curriculum Craft

We understand each child’s different dominant and strong intelligences and the different ways they learn and express themselves. Instructional strategies are adapted and crafted thoughtfully and creatively to meet the different needs of each child, thereby bringing out the best in them.

The child’s confidence is built up, being given opportunities to shine and excel in his or her intelligent areas, and where there is respect and recognition of a child’s achievement, the child has no fear of exploring new grounds and the joy of learning is birthed.

Every day, your children will look forward to going to school. So do others.
